Financial constraints may deter some dancers from attending workshops, summer schools, Spring Flings, teacher-training classes, balls, and other dance/music activities. Milwaukee Scottish Country Dancers (MkeSCD) will consider offering scholarships to such events.
Consideration will be given to (in no particular order):
- Paid annual membership dues with the Milwaukee Scottish Country Dancers ($20)
- Committed participation in Milwaukee and other Midwestern SCD events
- Frequent attendance at MkeSCD Monday night class (Journeys)
or/and at a MkeSCD Beginner Class (M-T Rec or Zao) - Financial need (self-reported)
- Demonstrated genuine love and interest in Scottish Country Dance
- Desire to improve skills
- First-time applicants
In addition, applicants may seek out funding from the event itself or from the RSCDS or other appropriate organizations, such as the National Folk Organization.
A MkeSCD Scholarship Request Form should be submitted at least 4 weeks in advance of the event. Notification will be made within 2 weeks of submission. Award decisions will be made by the MkeSCD Board.
Successful applicants will be encouraged to share a short summary (photos/videos welcome) within 4 weeks after their scholarship event to MkeSCD via mkescd.rrw@gmail.com. With the scholarship recipient’s permission (anonymity can be requested), this summary will be shared with the MkeSCD group email (perhaps FaceBook page) so that all can share in the joy and growth of the experience, as well as promote the availability of future scholarships.
